About Ric

Ric at San Diego Food BankRic was an avid climber and mountaineer who lived in San Diego with his wife Viki, and his 14 year old stepdaughter Erica.

He was the vice president of professional services for the San Diego Futures Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides technology to schools, nonprofits, and families. 'Ric had a reputation as an innovator who created and fostered strong relationships with staff, customers, and partners alike,' said Megan Graulich, Executive Director at the San Diego Futures Foundation. 'He was a thoughtful, generous and important addition to our SDFF family.'

Ric started rock climbing in his late teens, training in places such as Mission Trails Park in San Diego, California, the Owens River Gorge near Bishop, eventually working his way up to climbing Tahquitz near Idlywild, California.

In his late 20’s Ric became interested in alpine climbing. He climbed the east face of Mt. Whitney in the winter time, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Winchell, Humphrey’s, Denali and many more. In October 2007 he climbed the 21,035 foot Mount Thinchinkhang in the Himalayans in northern India.

Ric enjoyed being out in the mountains where he could quiet his mind and slow down from the hectic pace of every day life. He was a devoted husband and father and spent as much time as possible in the wilderness. He and his family usually took a yearly trip around the 4th of July to go overnight backpacking and then spend the rest of the weekend relaxing.

Ric was accomplished in so many different areas including technical climbing, designing and building a house, computer guru, and everything in between. He was the type of person who was always there to help friends and family. He was always generous with his time and would always find the time to help anyone who needed it.
